The topography and vegetation of Kuusamo differ clearly from other regions in Finland.
South of Lapland Kuusamo is the only region where height differences of the terrain can be over 200 metres.
There are about 20 hill tops with the elevation higher than 300 m above sea level and the tops of the fells.
In the areas around Ruka, Valtavaara, Iivaara and Penikkavaara the contours of the landscape are the most varied. The lowest area is the eastern part of the Oulanka river valley where the river flows only 135 m above sea level.

RIVER RAFTING AT KITKAJOKI
A great adventure going down all the Kitkajoki river rapids. This trip starts from Käylä and takes you all the way down the river to the Russian border zone. On the way you will conquer rapids with levels from I to IV.
